CAUTION! YOU ARE HOME NOW!
WHY DON'T WE KNOW?
An new era in child safety!
IF WE ONLY KNEW?
Child safety is lost in a busy world!
You need to know the enemy if you are going to conquer him. The enemy is "us" in the world of safety. We do it to ourselves. Virtually all accidents at home could be eliminated but we, the adults, place safety so far down on our priority list that we allow ourselves and our children to get hurt.
If we look at the job we are currently doing, and ask, "Is it possible to do the job better?", the answer would be a resounding yes! We need to look at ourselves and answer questions like; Are we and our children living our lives in a way that promotes safety? Do we know what we are doing and have we helped our kids to learn about safety and use it? Safety demands honesty and it starts with us.
The kids are taking a beating and it is on the last page of everyone's newspaper. This is about, learning the truth, and then doing something about it. This is your battle; this is your "home front" where you must learn how to win. Your efforts will help us win the bigger battle - reaching into all the homes and all the kids.
The need is urgent!
In the United States, more kids die from accidents that all diseases combined! Thousands of kids die and millions more are being injured from injuries at home. Most of these accidents are preventable.
WAITING IS NOT AN OPTION!
In spite of improvements over the last several years in safety for children, the losses continue and largely go unnoticed by the public in general. A sense of urgency should prevail and open our minds to the “call” to do something about the problem.

Looking danger in the face!
ARE WE TOO BUSY TO SAVE THE KIDS?
The "busy" in our lives is a major reason we have accidents. Because we are in a rush, we tend to ignore the "monster" that lurks in our homes. We are too busy to notice the greatest enemy our children have ever faced.
There is no marquee flashing “caution” when you walk in your front door. There are no headlines to enlighten us. There are no Saturday marches for public awareness of the dangers of home. “Safety” is a word buried in people’s busy lives and does not become important until a child is injured or killed.
Unfortunately, the loss of young lives and the pain and suffering that goes with it is largely invisible. The continuous stream of home accidents does not attract media attention.
In one survey, the vast majority of parents reported to feel safest in their homes even though there is evidence that suggest there are twice as many accidents in homes as in automobiles. Because the public is ill-informed the support to create significant change isn't present.

A reality check is in order!
The war on our kids in America!
Here at home, since the war in Iraq started, over 6,000 children have died in their own home. Sometimes it is hard to grasp such a figure. In order for something to move us emotionally enough to make a change - we must feel “something”.
Data on death in large numbers is very impersonal and often gives us a sense of hopelessness. We often dismiss things that are beyond our comprehension for we feel unable to change anything. Keep it simple! Do something about your kids and your home!

There is help for the kids on the Internet!
However, if we can feel the pain, just for one second, which a family feels after a serious accident, you will find motivation and a sense of purpose. Afterwards, there is always a discussion about what we could have done differently.
After the accident, it is too late! Sorry, we can't go back in time. But we can sure do something about the future! If we can extend ourselves just for a moment, and feel compassion towards one another, then we might begin to understand what this "safety thing" is about.
The number of injuries or fatalities tells us how we are doing with regard to our safety programs. Based on the current data, we have a long way to go to achieve the level of safety that is possible. In order to make a significant change in the numbers of deaths and injuries, a breakthrough in our approach to safety will be required.
Safety-Smart-Kids.com offers some new insights into safety for children. Some injuries are inevitable! However, the injuries that occur at home are largely preventable. What this means to us is: we can dramatically reduce the number of accidents!
When kids watch me they learn!

Build a safety tool kit!
Something must be done!
To a great extent, it is how we "think" that controls our risk management. Just knowing about safety is incomplete; it has to be in an "active or useable state" or it is useless.
The reality is "home" is a dangerous place. Once we understand this basic idea, we are already "light years" ahead of those who don't know or refuse to accept this fact. Safety-Smart-Kids is about protecting children and helping you to protect your children. You will do this because you love them, and you want them to be safe.
